Charitable Donations
The Rushmore German Club believes helping others creates a stronger community, and in that spirit strives to donate proceeds from the Sommerfest to various charitable organizations. Below is a list of organizations that have benefited from the Rushmore German Club in 2009:

  • Allied Arts Fund
  • Providing operating and promotional support for eleven arts organizations, as well as funding for other non-profit, grassroots community art projects in the Black Hills.

  • American Cancer Society
  • The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service

  • American Lung Association
  • The American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives, improve lung health and prevent lung disease.

  • Apolda-Rapid City Sister City
  • The Sister City program brings diverse cultures together. Rapid City has been a Sister City to Apolda, Germany since 1994.

  • Black Hills Childrens Home
  • A branch of the Children's Home Society, the Black Hills Childrens' Home provides the essence of Home--refuge, nourishment, love, and limits--to women and children in need.

  • Childrens' Miracle Network
  • Children’s Miracle Network’s mission is to generate funds and awareness programs in partnership with and for the benefit of member hospitals/foundations and the children they are privileged to serve.

  • Fort Meade Veterans Hospital
  • Provides primary and secondary medical and surgical care, along with residential rehabilitation treatment program (RRTP) services, extended nursing home care and tertiary psychiatric inpatient care services for veterans living in the region.

  • Hospice House
  • The goal of hospice is to enable patients to continue an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by their loved ones.

  • Make a Wish Foundation
  • Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work.

  • M.E.A.L.S. Program
  • This is a service of Western South Dakota Senior Services, Inc., a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the well-being of senior citizens through nutritious meals, nutrition education, socialization and other supportive services.

  • Storybook Island
  • Storybook Island’s mission is to provide a free, safe, educational environment for those young in years, or young at heart, to experience the power of imagination.

  • Working Against Violence, Inc. (WAVI)
  • WAVI's primary purpose is to assist women and children in crisis situations by providing temporary emergency shelter, food, and/or supportive services, and to educate the community on the issues of battering.
